Obituary for Robert (Skipper) James Ferry Jr

Robert (Skipper) James Ferry Jr. 67, died on January 5th 2012, at Renown Hospital in Reno, Nevada, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Bob was born on June 10th, 1944 in Woonsocket, R.I. son of the late Robert James Ferry Sr. and Rita (Guertin) Ferry of Sutton, Ma.
He grew up in North Uxbridge Ma., and lived in Whitinsville, Ma. for several years before moving to Reno in 1999.
He leaves his wife of 45 years Claire (Letourneau) Ferry of Reno, one son Sean Ferry of Whitinsville Ma., a daughter, Kristine Lange and her husband Stephen of Northbridge Ma., and his beloved granddaughter Olivia Lange of Northbridge.
He leaves a sister, Kathleen Givner of Sutton Ma. He was predeceased by his brother Dennis Ferry and sister Maureen Wrona. He also dearly missed his late grandparents, Annette” Nanny” and Omer ”Koko” Guertin, who played a very special part in his life.
He also leaves brothers-in-law, Donald Letourneau and his wife Joyce of Uxbridge, Ma., and William Letourneau of Milford Ma., a dear sister-in-law Debbie Ferry of Harwichport, Ma., many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
He was a graduate of St. Mary’s HS in Milford Ma., class of 1962 and City Hospital School of Nursing. He earned his BSN from Assumption College in Worcester, Ma. He was also a Certified Legal Nursing Consultant. He worked for the Woonsocket R.I. VNA before joining Home Care Plus in Reno NV, until starting his own consulting company, Meadowstar Consulting LLC. He traveled all over the country assisting clients, many of whom became close friends as well.
Bob enjoyed many activities throughout his life, camping, biking, basketball etc., but by far his favorite activity was music and dancing.
Besides his immediate family Bob enjoyed spending time with those he called his “Cowboy Family”. He was an avid fan and devoted follower and friend of ”David John and The Comstock Cowboys” and loved nothing better than joining up for a night of dancing at the Bucket of Blood in Virginia City. He loved each and every one of his friends whether they were new friends, old friends or cowboy friends with a deep appreciation for who they were. His only disappointment in life was that it took him so long to realize he was meant to be a cowboy. It was a great thrill for him to ride his horse, “J.J. Freedom”.
Bob was an advocate of the U.S. Constitution and was especially outspoken about the 2nd amendment and the right of all Americans to bear arms. He was a proud member of the 601 Vigilance Committee
As one of Bob’s good friends Gus stated, “He will always be remembered as a wonderful man, husband and father, whose compassion, strength and sincere caring for others was second to no man”. As Gus stood by his bed, Bob opened his eyes and reached out for Gus’ cowboy hat. Bob had always coveted this hat and he passed peacefully while still holding onto it. Bob’s personality was larger than life and will be missed by those who knew him.
Funeral Services will be held at Good Shepherd Church 121 Linwood Street, Uxbridge MA, on Saturday January 21, at 10 AM. Family will receive friends at 9AM at the church.
Memorial donations may be made to the St .Mary’s Art Center or the Annabel Shelly Scholarship Fund 55 R St. Virginia City, NV., 89440.
